This alebrije (ah-lay-bree-hay) is located in the lobby of Dreams Huatulco Resort and Spa. The artist is Jacobo Angeles of San Martin Ticajete Ocotlan in the state of Oaxaca Mexico. It stands 13 ft tall, 8 ft wide, 10 ft long and weighs 99 lbs. It is made of paper mache and painted with acrylics. This colorful piece of art took 3 months to complete with the help of family members. Alebrijes are mythical creatures, this one combines an eagle and a snake- the most powerful animals in the Zapotec culture. It is titled "Dragon". Alebrijes are found in art galleries, craft markets and souvenir shops throughout Mexico, painted in great detail, handcarved carved in wood from the copal tree or made of paper mache, prices vary depending on size and detail.
