A special guest #Blog4NZ post by @travel_version
New Zealand has always been a favourite destination among travelers and usually finds its place in “top 10” lists but no matter how mainstream NZ is; some things still surprised me about the land of Kiwis:
The Coffee Culture
To say that Kiwis like coffee would be nothing short of an understatement. You can find coffee shops, cafés and quality coffee products everywhere you look. The general laid-back and relaxed atmosphere found in cities like Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch is highlighted by that ever growing coffee culture, easily competing with Europe’s most famous coffee powerhouses.
The laid-back attitude
Generally speaking, New Zealanders are known to be some of the nicest and friendliest people in the World but what impressed me was how the biggest urban centers such as country’s capital Wellington still managed to feel relaxed and carefree. Even with all the perks of a major city, Wellington comes off as a truly welcoming locale, giving off a friendly, somewhat innocent vibe that is often lost in bigger cities.
Food. So much food.
Prior to my short visit to NZ, the extent of my knowledge regarding food was; New Zealand is known for its lamb. While that may be true, New Zealand’s culinary culture offers an impressive range of flavours that are as varied as the country’s diversified population. The small country’s Māori culture, mixed with European and Asian-based trends, definitely makes New Zealand a must-see for all the foodies out there.
